C. A. BridgesUSA TODAY NETWORK - Florida

Someone in South Florida woke up this morning a big winner.

The winning ticket for the $215 million Powerball in Monday night's drawing was purchased at a Publix at 9050 Biscayne Boulevard, Miami Shores, the Florida Lottery reported in an email. According to Powerball.com, the cash payout would be $100.1 million.

That makes this the 12th time the Powerball jackpot has had a Florida winner since it began in 2009, according to Florida Lottery data, and five of them have come from a Publix supermarket. Publix sells the most winning lottery tickets in Florida, because the grocery chain sells the most tickets.

A winning ticket in Indiana scored the $2 million Power Play jackpot, but no one won the $1 million Powerball jackpot.

Can Florida lottery winners remain anonymous?

"We know that some people don’t want to brag about their winnings, and we get that," the Florida Lottery said. "But Florida law mandates that the Florida Lottery allow access to certain governmental records for public disclosure purposes."

Winner's names, city of residence, how much they won and where the ticket was bought are all matters of public record. However, since May 2022, Florida law allows the names of anyone winning $250,000 or more to be temporarily exempt for 90 days from the date the prize is claimed.

It's also possible to claim the prize under a trust or LLC.
