A small neighborhood. That's what they call it.With the vast number of carpenters in Chicago. The old-school millwork guys distinguished themselves. They were a small neighborhood. As a big city made up of many named neighborhoods this term held weight.Although small, this group is made up of some of the city's biggest characters. How do you become a part of the small neighborhood? There is no official voting. There is no secret handshake. There is an initiation process to become a part of it.A place in the small neighborhood is earned.Earned by proving your skills, and ability to problem solve.By showing your ability to get along and work together.Proving your solid character.Telling great stories at break and lunch helps too.The benefits, a yearly party, and a phone call if they need you on their project or if they are looking for work. The biggest benefit is being a part of a group.Just like any good neighborhood.I had fought like hell to get there so, I'll never forget when the word "We" was added and it became. We are a small neighborhood. Are you part of a small neighborhood?#lead #construction #leadership #bluecollar #skilledtrades #trades #PM #superintendent #millwork #apprenticeshipLike my t-shirt?
