Pulmonary telerehabilitation vs. conventional pulmonary rehabilitation - a secondary responder analysis

Summary: This study analyzed the proportion of minimal important changes in patients with COPD who received home-based pulmonary telerehabilitation (PTR) or traditional hospital-based outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation (PR). The results showed no significant difference in the improvement of walking distance between home-based PTR and traditional PR at 10 and 62 weeks. While home-based PTR is an effective alternative, outpatient PR remains the preferred option.

Most programs prescribe oxygen during exercise training to maintain SpO(2) above a threshold of 80-88%, but few have a protocol for supplemental oxygen prescription. This may be due to lack of strong evidence supporting the use of supplemental oxygen during exercise training.

Swimming-induced changes in pulmonary function: special observations for clinical testing

There are gender differences in respiratory function measurements between land and water testing in swimmers, suggesting the need for consideration in clinical testing. During the intensity that triggered the most severe symptoms, swimmers exhibited approximately 20% higher minute ventilation than the target ventilations for clinical testing.

Through in vivo and in vitro models, the study suggested that pirfenidone may alleviate pathological changes in RA by inhibiting inflammation and angiogenesis through multiple pathways such as JAK2/STAT3 and Akt.

Prefrontal tDCS modulates autonomic responses in COVID-19 inpatients

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the efficacy, safety, and feasibility of a single session of bihemispheric prefrontal tDCS on cardiac autonomic regulation and mood of COVID-19 inpatients. The results showed a significant effect of tDCS on cardiac autonomic regulation, with increased oxygen saturation in the active group. However, no significant differences were observed in mood and adverse effects. Therefore, a single prefrontal tDCS session is safe and effective in modulating cardiac autonomic regulation in acute COVID-19 inpatients.

Assessment of short- and long-term functionality and quality of life in patients with post-acute COVID-19 syndrome

The results showed a progressive improvement in quality of life, general fatigue, and pulmonary function during the 12 months of follow-up, with more pronounced improvement in the first 6 months. There was a relationship between functionality and quality of life in these patients.

Prediction models for physical function in COVID-19 survivors

Summary: This study built prediction models for the Post-COVID-19 Functional Status (PCFS) scale using sociodemographic data, clinical findings, lung function, and muscle strength. The results showed that worse general fatigue and handgrip strength were associated with more severe physical function impairments in patients with post-COVID-19 syndrome. Additionally, a history of prior hospitalization resulted in worse physical function. Prediction models incorporating objective measures can better assess the physical function of these patients and aid in the selection of candidates for a physical reconditioning program.
